Josh Taylor has something to prove when he takes on Teofimo Lopez for the WBO super lightweight title in New York this weekend.
Taylor has not fought since February 2022, when he retained the undisputed title in a controversial decision against Jack Catterroll in Glasgow. The undefeated Scot has since been stripped of two belts and another as he focused on a rematch with Caterroll, whom he lost earlier in the year.
The breakdown in the bout led to the announcement of the bout, but the 32-year-old Taylor will defend the rest of the title against former unified lightweight champion Lopez.
Lopez, 25, defeated Vasily Lomachenko to win the lightweight belt in 2020, but lost to George Kambosos Jr. in 2021. The American has bounced back with two straight wins at the super-lightweight division since his only loss as a pro, but Pedro Campa is coming to a halt. In August, he won a controversial decision against Thunder Martin.
When is it?
The match will take place on Saturday, June 10 at the Madison Square Garden Fool Theater in New York City.
