Israel Adesanya lost his UFC middleweight belt. Indeed, he does not know where he is at the moment.
As surprising as it may seem, Israel Adesanya, the UFC middleweight champion, said he wasn’t tied to his belt and even found it… Heavy!
With an MMA record of 15 wins per KO and 7 per decision for a single loss (by decision) to Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight title, Adesanya is a sacred monster.
It was in a recent interview that The Last Stylebender admitted to losing his championship belt (via bjpenn):
The belt is heavy. I have no idea where it is right now. I am not at all attached to this thing. I know who I am ***; I was champion before the belt. It’s heavy.
It doesn’t have to be that heavy, but I think they did it to emphasize that you feel it.
So that you know that you hold something big to you to say to yourself: ‘Woah, this is something huge.’
Then, Israel Adesanya spoke of the fact that his belt has, for him, five rubies:
It’s the same belt. That’s why I tell people that I’m a five-time defending champion. I’m mad at what they said about the fourth time.
It’s just common sense… When the champion who couldn’t show up several times (Whittaker) recently retired too, it’s funny; I’m the champion in the meantime.
I beat him. It counts like a ruby on my belt. So my belt has five rubies. I don’t care what the media says or what the commission says. I’m a five-time defending champion because I know who I am.
And Adesanya will again defend his belt against Jared Cannonier in the main event of UFC 276 on July 2. Cannonier is on two consecutive wins against Derek Brunson and Kelvin Gastelum.
It’s a fight that everyone is waiting for, including Israel Adesanya, who unveiled a special video about it.
